Assessing for Trauma at Intake
Avoidance is one of the primary symptoms of trauma, and as such it can be hard to assess for and diagnose. Clinicians are sometimes as apprehensive as clients are when discussing trauma. There are often fears about “re-traumatizing” clients or being unable to help manage symptoms if they emerge during the intake process. This avoidance negatively affects prognosis, as crucial time is lost before clients receive the appropriate treatment & relief for their trauma symptoms. This webinar will provide mental health workers with the information and tools they need to understand how trauma presents and best practice methods for exploring pertinent history in a manner that will not overwhelm nor do harm to clients. This webinar does not have any offerings for this semester.
