Gender Affirming Relationships and Gender Affirming Care: Attitudes, Approaches, and Skills

This is a 2-day webinar.

Day 1 - April 16:
Many transgender and non-binary people struggle to find therapists that are affirming of their identities, and even clinicians that are well meaning often have to be educated by their clients when it comes to their gender identities. This webinar is designed to facilitate consciousness-raising and depth of self-awareness of how gender socialization impacts and informs the therapeutic lens and therapeutic relationship. Participants will have opportunities for small group discussions and self-reflective activities to facilitate a depth of personal and professional understanding of how themes of gender inform clinical conceptualizations. Participants will also gain a foundational understanding of the lived experience of transgender and non-binary individuals, as well as core current affirmative language and terminology to use with gender-expansive individuals and groups.

Day 2 - April 23:
Day two of this webinar is designed to facilitate consciousness-raising and depth of self-awareness of how gender socialization impacts and informs the therapeutic lens and therapeutic relationship, including socio-cultural-political themes that will likely show up in the therapy room. In this session, participants will have opportunities for small group discussions, case review, and self-reflective activities to facilitate a depth of personal and professional understanding of how themes of gender, gender identity, and gender socialization enforcement inform clinical conceptualizations. Participants will also gain a more advanced competency with elements of gender affirming care, including letter-writing for gender affirming medical care, working with family members and caregivers, and helping clients navigate the various transitions in their lives.
