Understanding Dementia and Managing Challenging Behaviors

Dementia is an umbrella term for conditions that affect cognitive functioning over time, interfering with thinking, reasoning, remembering, and behaviors. There are many types of dementia. Alzheimer’s type dementia is the most common. Dementia is not a normal part of aging, although as we age, the risk for dementia increases. Medical science has not yet found a way to cure dementia or to stop its progression but understanding dementia can help caregivers provide support and improve quality of life.
